Wear Crossing costs must not spiral out of control again say Wearside Lib Dems

Commenting on the next phase of work on the new Wear crossing starting today (28th January), Wearside Liberal Democrats spokesman Niall Hodson said:

“It is good to see construction underway on a bridge that will improve Sunderland’s transport infrastructure. However we want to see assurances from Sunderland Council that costs won’t spiral out of control again. Thanks to the Council’s shambolic management of this project, the bridge is late, there is no ‘iconic design’, and they wasted £3.6 million consulting on a previous design.

"At a time when the council is letting roads crumble, reducing bin collections, and cutting support for disabled children’s transport to school, it is only right that they reassure the people of Sunderland that the new Wear crossing won’t result in more money wasted and more services cut. The Labour-run City Council’s vanity projects have cost us enough already.”
