Sir Alan Beith will enter the House of Lords

After stepping down as the MP for Berwick at the 2015 General Election with 42 years service to the area Sir Alan Beith has been named in David Cameron's dissolution honours list

The veteran Liberal then Liberal Democrat MP who served as deputy leader of the party, chief whip and home affairs spokesman in his time in the Commons will join former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell and 9 other new Liberal Democrat peers. 

Sir Alan will join Lord Ian Wrigglesworth, his wife Baroness Diana Maddock and Lord John Shipley as members of the House of Lords with ties to the North East.

Everyone in the North East Liberal Democrats would like to congratulate Sir Alan who has worked tirelessly over many years for the people of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the North East of England.

North East Liberal Democrat Chair Ian Jones added, "We congratulate Sir Alan Beith on his peerage announced today. He has given excellent service to Berwick constituency and the northeast for over 40 years . Our region will be well served by having his experience and wisdom representing its interests in the Lords. A true voice of liberalism."
